Abilene police identify Texas Tech student killed in I-20 crash

Abilene police have identified the 20-year-old woman killed Tuesday afternoon when she crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler.ABILENE, Texas -

Police say Gabrielle Barajas was a student at Texas Tech.

"Her permanent address is still being verified," Abilene police spokeswoman Jennifer Galvan said Wednesday.

Barajas' drivers license shows she lived in Baytown. Her Facebook page says she was from Wichita Falls and went to high school in Garland.

According to the traffic division, Barajas was headed west on I-20 when she lost control of her 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt and hit the big rig which had broken down at FM 600.

She was pronounced dead on scene.

The crash happened shortly after noon Tuesday.

Drivers on westbound Interstate 20 may face some delays this afternoon after a two-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler.

A red Chevrolet Cobalt rammed into the back of the truck, which was parked on the side of the interstate at mile marker 287.

It is not clear whether there are any injuries.

A KTXS crew on the scene says an ambulance arrived but did not transport anyone.

Westbound traffic has been reduced to one lane while officials work the accident.

Traffic was still backed up from mile marker 286 to exit 288 as of 2:30 p.m.
