CAPE KIWANDA, Ore. (KATU) — Police say they recovered the body of a California man a day after he fell from a rocky bluff at Oregon's Cape Kiwanda State Natural area and was washed out to sea.
According to law enforcement, Henry Minh Hoang, 25, of West Covina, was hiking beyond a safety fence in an area known to locals as “the punch bowl” around 5 p.m.
Hoang reportedly slipped and fell around 20 feet down into the water. The fall knocked him unconscious, and witnesses say he was swept into the ocean by the waves.
A rescue effort was mounted, but was quickly determined to likely transition into a recovery operation. The search was suspended until Sunday due to weather conditions.
Hoang was located deceased Sunday afternoon on the shoreline at the bottom of a nearby cliff. His body was recovered and taken to a nearby funeral home.
