SAN ANTONIO — Walmart will begin giving bonuses to employees who don't call in sick.
According to Walmart's website, the company is revamping its attendance policy by giving employees an additional 25 percent on top of the cash bonuses they currently receive every quarter, if they have perfect attendance.
"Our associates told us they wanted to be rewarded for their dedication, and we couldn’t agree more," Walmart VP Drew Holler said in a statement.
Since many employees use their sick days to care for sick children or other family emergencies, the retail giant says it will also start offering 'protected PTO' for hourly workers. Employees may use up to six protected PTO days a year and still be eligible for the additional bonus if they don't use any other sick days.
The new policy takes effect this weekend.
