Airman from Goodfellow AFB awarded Purple Heart

An airman at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo has been given one of the U.S. armed forces' highest honors.

2nd Lt. Daniel Hipps received the Purple Heart Jan. 31st.

Hipps, who's with the 315th Training Squadron, received the Purple Heart for injuries he suffered while deployed in Afghanistan.

Hipps suffered a traumatic brain injury when an 80-pound explosion went off right under the armored vehicle he was in.

After that, Hipps was deployed to Afghanistan two other times.
