Brownsville ISD places Superintendent on administrative leave
This evening the Brownsville Independent School District held a special school board meeting where school board members unanimously approved to place Superintendent Dr. Esperanza Zendejas on administrative leave with pay.
Zendejas, who has been superintendent since February of 2015, previously served as the superintendent for BISD from 1992 to 1995. No information has been released as to why Zendejas’ employment with the district was a topic of discussion at tonight’s meeting.
CBS 4 spoke to BISD parents who say they are not made aware of things that happen within the district.
"We are not informed about anything in the school district, they don't inform us," states Aracely Martinez. a BISD parent.
Martinez is not the only one with a reaction when it comes to the district’s transparency.
"It concerns us that we don't know what's going on. We should be aware of what's going on," Maria Alvear, a concerned parent, adds.
We reached out to the BISD board of trustees for answers but they would not comment.
Right now it is unclear why Zendejas was placed on leave or when she will return.
