HILLSBORO, Texas - A Central Texas man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for fatally shooting his 14-year-old daughter whose body was left in a field for several hours.

Edwin Collins Jr. of Whitney was sentenced Friday after being convicted of murder.

Investigators say the victim, Judith Collins, was shot in the back.

Trial testimony in Hillsboro indicated the father was using methamphetamine for a couple of days and he thought someone was chasing him and his three children.

Authorities say Collins had his other two children with him and forced them to wait about four hours before reporting the fatal shooting.
