Two teens were arrested in Harlingen following a police chase starting in Mercedes Thursday afternoon.

La Feria police say at about 12:25 p.m., they received a call from a woman stating she was being chased in a car by her boyfriend coming from Mercedes.

Police spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over, but he would not stop.

The chase went through several streets in La Feria and then into Harlingen, where he lost control of the car on Lewis Lane.

Once the vehicle came to a stop, police say the driver ran away, but was later caught by police and troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The driver, identified as 17-year-old Jose Leonardo Reynosa of Harlingen, was charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle, evading arrest on foot and aggravated assault with a motor vehicle. Bond was set at $16,000.

The passenger, identified as 17-year-old Caleb Cortinas of Harlingen, was charged with assault/family violence. Police say Cortinas was the woman’s boyfriend. He was fined $316.

Correction: Jose Leonardo Reynosa is accused of running away from police, not Caleb Cortinas.
