Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio says the two men were caught on surveillance camera in broad daylight breaking into a home in north Harlingen.

Lucio says on February 6, the men went into a home on the 22000 block of New Combes Highway.

No one was inside at the time but Lucio said the homeowner was at work when the men broke into his home.

While inside the home, police said the intruders spotted the security camera, tore it down and left empty-handed.

Lucio believes the pair is behind several other break-ins in the area.

"It's believed that these individuals have been committing some of the burglaries around that area and perhaps around the surrounding areas," Lucio said during a press conference.

Lucio said the men, who are believed to be in their 20's, were seen leaving the area in a tan colored 2011 Chevy Malibu.

He says a burglary of habitation charge carries a possible sentence of two to 20 years behind bars.
