Warming shelter opening in San Angelo for those affected by cold temps

A warming shelter will be opening at the Carl Ray Johnson Recreation Center on 1103 Farr Street for those affected by winter temperatures.

The shelter will be open from 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, to noon Sunday, Dec. 25, and operated by the American Red Cross in conjunction with the city. The fire department will also be on standby for EMS needs.

The Concho Valley Transit District, 510 N Chadbourne, will be providing free transportation to the shelter until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, and 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. There will be no transportation Sunday.

Food donations are not being accepted at this time, and no disruptive animals will be permitted at the shelter.
