Cowboys open ASC postseason play against Sul Ross
ABILENE, Texas —
In a season full of learning curves, the motto for Hardin-Simmons baseball now remains as simple as this -- all we need is a chance.
HSU will get that opportunity at 7 p.m. Friday when it opens American Southwest Conference tournament action in Alpine against Sul Ross in game 1 of the double-elimination tournament.
The Cowboys' skill hasn't reflected in its 15-25 season record. They've played in tough, close games with a few breaks making the difference in a few more wins.
But like in 2015, when guys like Taylor Cooling (making is 150th start Friday), Cody Berryman, Elijah Perez and Ty Engelhardt were freshman -- they know the conference tournament is an even playing field. That year, HSU only had 13 regular season wins heading into the postseason, and made it all the way to the ASC championship series winner-take-all game 3.
Now, HSU will attempt to do the same, with its first test coming against a Lobos team they beat back on March 30 in a series loss.
