Kade Parmelly knows how to fight with opposing linemen in the trenches on the football field.

And, unfortunately, he also knows what its like to fight an illness.

Parmelly, a former captain on the football teams at Wylie High School and ACU, was recently diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

He is undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy in the Dallas area, but has had a great support system.

A GoFundMe launched on Feb. 19 has already raised more than $50,000 from over 400 donors.

"It's been a good problem to deal with, having an overwhelming amount of people from Abilene, and Durham as well from Duke that I went to last year.," said Parmelly.

He was a star offensive and defensive lineman on Wylie's state finalist squad in 2016.

Parmelly then played in 40 games in four seasons at ACU. He was named the 2020 Wildcat Club Male student-Athlete of the Year.

Parmelly transferred to Duke for his final year and played in all 12 games.

"Professors, coaches just sending me a crazy amount of love and support, sending me prayer every day. That has been really encouraging."

Parmelly missed nearly all of his junior season at Wylie to treat blood clots in his brain.
