RELEASE -- McMurry University sophomore Brendon Lowrance is the clubhouse leader after the first day of the Crown Colony Collegiate Open. Lowrance carded an even-par 72 for the day on the 6,692-yard Crown Colony Country Club course.

Lowrance leads by four shots over Blaine Hale of Oklahoma University, who shot a 76. Hale, a junior, helped Oklahoma to the NCAA I national championship in 2017.

Two other War Hawks are in the field, as well. Sophomore Lane Roye carded an 81 and sits in sixth place. Freshman Joey Boyd completed his round with an 84 and is tied for 10th place entering Tuesday’s final round.

The tournament first started in 1992 when future PGA major winner Justin Leonard won the event. Schools are not allowed to compete as teams during the time when classes are not in session, so players compete as individuals.

Year in and year out, Crown Colony is one of the highest-rated courses in the state of Texas. The club hosted the Southern Amateur in 1987 and 2001, and the Texas State Amateur in 1982 and 1998.
