War Hawks sweep season series with crosstown rival HSU, 4-1
ABILENE, Texas —
McMurry softball led wire-to-wire on Tuesday afternoon, beating crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons, 4-1 at Redbud Park in Abilene.
The War Hawks scored all four of its runs in the first inning. Rachel Ripley had a two-run home run and Adrienne Narin had an RBI single. The other run scored on a wild pitch.
HSU scored its run in the sixth inning on the first career home run of Laura Guerrero.
Gabby Ortega (0-10) went the distance allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out a career-best eight batters. Cheyenne West (2-6) earned the win for McMurry with seven innings of eight-hit ball, allowing just one run.
Taylor Lopez had three of the eight hits for HSU. Ashley McClellan and Ripley had two hits each for McMurry.
The Cowgirls are now 0-15 on the year and will play at Southwestern on Wednesday in a doubleheader. McMurry improved to 4-13 on the year.
