Friday, 16 teams battled for two state 7-on-7 spots at HSU, McMurry, Shotwell Stadium, and the The Fieldhouse -- all a part of the Abilene SQT.

Wylie, which is the only remaining non-qualified team from Abilene, went 0-2 in pool play, and was left out of a trip to the semifinals. The Bulldogs now will head to Justin Northwest on Saturday hoping to then secure a trip to College Station and the state tournament.

Abilene High and Cooper both qualified at the Lubbock SQT last weekend, and so they used Friday as a chance to practice and get better.

The Eagles lost in the first game of their pool session to Lubbock Coronado, but finished the day 2-1 with wins over Harker Heights and All-Saints Episcopal. Cooper was the dominant local team, going a perfect 3-0 in Pool D.

The Coogs beat Midland Christian by a score of 34-20, then went to OT with Copperas Cove -- before Aidan Thompson hit Nyjil Williams in the endzone for the game-winning extra point. Cooper wrapped up pool play with a dominating 41-6 win over Lubbock Trinity Christian.

The two teams advancing to state that won semifinal games on Friday afternoon are Lubbock Coronado and Temple. The State 7-on-7 tournament runs from June 28-30 at College Station's Veterans Park.
