The Sammy Burnett era will not get started in a quiet way, as the new Brownwood head football coach and the rest of the Lions will square off against Brock on a nationally available telecast.

The game will be played on Friday, August 31 at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood with kick-off at 5:35 p.m., and will be aired live on Fox Sports Southwest (FSSW).

This will be the first of a doubleheader presented on FSSW as part of their second annual Texas Football Days, a celebration of high school football in the Lone Star State.

The presentation will also include live look-ins at ten other high school games across Texas, as well as feature stories on the people and communities that make Texas high school football special.

Burnett said crews from FSSW have already been shooting video around Brownwood and at the stadium. He said his players have been featured in what's called a "gladiator shoot", with Lions players reciting lines.

In 2017, FSSW and the University Interscholastic League aired a doubleheader consisting of Shallowater vs. Idalou, and Converse Judson vs. Lake Travis.

"It will definitely be bigger [this year]," UIL deputy director Jamey Harrison said.

Harrison added FSSW and the UIL have had much more time to work on the production this year, and that Texas Football Days could include a drone or possibly a blimp.

Brownwood is coming off a 6-5 season, but has a strong quarterback returning for his senior season in Tommy Bowden, and speedy receivers Bradon Jetton and A.J. McCarty.

Brock, meanwhile, is a perennial power in Class 3A Division I and reached the state championship game last year. The Eagles return 15 total starters from a team which finished 13-3, and are headlined by Texas A&M commit TE Baylor Cupp and North Texas commit OT John Brunner.
