Cisco's Montell named first KTXS Student-Athlete of the Week

You'll first notice Leigh Anne Montell for all the shots she makes for the Cisco girls' basketball team, but a closer look will show she's the hardest worker on the floor.

"It sets the tone for our varsity team and all the way down to the seventh grade. The kids look up to here," said Cisco head coach Brent Kilpatrick who nominated Montell for the KTXS Student-Athlete of the Week honor.

"She does everything that you would want your best player to do. It's pretty impressive."

Montell, a senior, was an All-State selection last year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, was named a first team all-district player twice and surpassed the 1,000 career point mark earlier this season.

Off the basketball court, Montell is an excellent student. She is on track to be her class' salutatorian and would like to major in biology in college.

Her experiences playing sports peaked her interest in a physical therapy career to help rehabilitate athletes.

"I had some sprained ankles and I was very interested in how everything worked and why they chose certain techniques," said Montell. "I thought it was really interesting."
