Coming into Thursday's final round, Snyder's Jake Leatherwood and Wylie's Maddi Olson had one goal -- stay where they were.

Both entered the day in the lead for boys and girls ages 15-18, and both would walk away victorious at the 2018 West Teas Jr. Open Championship at Abilene Country Club.

For Olson, it was smooth sailing, finishing the two-day tournament at +4, 146. She improved four strokes on day 2 after finishing the opening round with a 75. Olson's win comes on the heels of her first professional tournament invite, where she earned an invitation to play on exception -- and even made the cut, finishing in the top 45.

Thursday was a Wylie Bulldog sweep, with Olson's teammate Baylee Valentine making a charge for second at +21, 163. Finishing third was Arin Zachary at +24, 166. Rounding out the top 5 was Snyder's AmyAnn Villanueva with a +37, 179.

On the boys side, Jake Leatherwood felt the heat all afternoon. His playing partners of Jaryn Pruitt (Brownwood) and Karson Grigsby (Abilene) where right on his heels entering the final round, but the Snyder Tiger played it cool.

Leatherwood would hold off the duo by one stroke, with a final round of an even 70, good enough to end the tournament as champion at +1, 141. Grigsby and Pruitt both tied for second at +2, 142 -- with Pruitt surging with a tournament-low 68. Grigsby was right behind with a final round score of -1, 69.

Last year's winner Colton Hilburn of Merkel struggled on day 1 with a +5, 75 -- but rebounded to finish 4th overall at +4, 146.
