Local H.S. players prep for state tennis this week

Seventeen Big Country athletes will take part in the UIL state tennis tournament in College Station later this week. The quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, with the championship matches on Friday at Texas A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center and Intramural Tennis Center.

Eight area high schools will be represented, including Wylie which is sending eight players to the state tournament.

Three of those eight are making a return trip to College Station. Analeah Elias will compete in the girls singles. She qualified for state in the girls doubles last year. The mixed doubles pairing of Kaitlyn Hathorn and Davyn Williford each participated in the 2017 tournament. Hathorn was in he girls singles last year, while Williford won state in the boys doubles division.

All eight of the Wylie qualifiers were also a part of the Bulldog squad which won the Class 4A team tennis state title last November.

Class 4A

Boys Singles - Lane Adkins, Wylie

Girls Singles - Analeah Elias, Wylie

Girls Doubles - Hailey Parker and Madison Andrews, Wylie; Elle Schroeder and Andrea McMillan, Wylie

Mixed Doubles - Kaitlyn Hathorn and Davyn Williford, Wylie

Class 3A

Girls Singles - Kelsey Riddle, Jim Ned

Mixed Doubles - Jackson Hanna and Paige Abercrombie, Jim Ned

Class 2A

Boys Singles - Jaron Reynolds, Hawley

Boys Doubles - Noah Horn and Rudy Gutierrez, Stamford

Class 1A

Boys Singles - Caleb Galvan, Moran

Girls Singles - Anna Masonheimer, Eula; Anna Ribera, Throckmorton

Girls Doubles - Jayden Spears and Bryton Pearcy, Bronte
