Merkel's Jonah White verbally commits to play football at Baylor
MERKEL, Texas —
On Thanksgiving Eve, Jonah White made a big announcement.
The Merkel senior athlete tweeted he had verbally committed to play college football for the Baylor Bears.
White was without a doubt the most electrifying and exciting football player in the Big Country this season as he gained nearly 4,000 total yards, scored 41 touchdowns and put together Play of the Week-caliber plays almost each Friday night.
White will play defensive back at Baylor. He spent his junior season at receiver and defensive back, but was moved to quarterback for his senior season in order to give him the most opportunities to make plays with the football.
Baylor offered White a scholarship on October 31. Seven other Division I programs, including ACU, UTEP, Kansas, Texas State and Tulane, offered White a scholarship, according to 247 Sports which also ranked White as a three-star athlete.
High school seniors can officially sign their letter of intents on Wednesday, December 19.
