Roscoe girls basketball having breakout season
ROSCOE, Texas —
At 12-9, the Roscoe girls' basketball team's record may not jump off the page, but it's an exceptional mark for them.
The Plowgirls have already matched their combined win total for the two previous seasons, including wins over Roby, Winters, Anson and Life Waxahachie this year.
"We had a rough year last year," third-year head coach Shella Arnwine said. "We've had a lot of injuries and the girls have worked their tails off to get where they're at."
And Roscoe is a good spot. The Plowgirls advanced to the championship of their bracket at the Anson Lions Holiday Tournament, and also won multiple games in the Roscoe Highland Ira tournaments.
Roscoe is grouped in a very competitive district with state-ranked Haskell, a young and talented Stamford bunch and Albany, Hawley, and Cross Plains.
Arnwine is also excited about the up-and-coming players.
"They've had some success and the younger ones have bought in. They're playing year-round and they're getting after it and they're coming to the games," she said.
"When you come in, you're going to have a hard time whenever you play the Plowgirls."
Roscoe hosts Hawley on Tuesday, Jan. 8 before heading to Albany on Friday, Jan. 11.
