Stamford has found major success on the softball field in recent years, and they're seeking a third-consecutive trip to Austin for the State Tournament. However, this season the team faced new challenges.

In 2023, the Lady Bulldogs have relied on Emma Follis, a 14-year-old freshman, to start at the circle.

"I feel like my confidence has grown throughout the year just because we've been so successful each round," said Follis. "I feel like no matter what, my team is going to have my back."

Even the coaching staff recognizes that she is as rare as they come. Follis currently has 18 wins on the season and leads the team in RBI's.

"During the game, she does not act like it. She doesn't carry herself like a freshman," said Sean Slavin, Stamford head softball coach. "It's due to all the experience she has and how long she's played the game and how much work she's put in."

Follis joins a Stamford team that lost its star pitcher Citlaly Gutierrez, who is now thriving as a Texas Longhorn.

"It's big shoes to fill, and I know everyone has high expectations," Follis said. "All these other towns want to get back at us from the mark she left."

With senior experience and young talent, the goal is clear--a map of Texas posted on the wall of the home dugout with the city Austin circled.

Stamford faces Forsan in the 2A Regional Final for a best-of-three series. Game 1 is Thursday at 5 p.m. at ACU.
