2018 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys first round scenarios
ABILENE, Texas —
With the 19th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select...
Well, it could be one of a handful of options but heading now less than 24 hours from the first pick, its clear three or four names have risen to the top of the priority list.
To replace Dez Bryant, the Cowboys have two options on the table at wide receiver -- should they go that rout in the first round. Courtland Sutton out of SMU is one they Cowboys have met with and kept an eye on. He's a big receiver with a vertical leap ideal for that 50-50 ball. Calvin Ridley out of Alabama is the other hot ticket receiver slated to go rather early. He's smaller but speedy -- able to catch the defense off-guard with quick route running and the ability to stop on a dime.
There's also a notion Dallas may look at a linebacker. With Sean Lee's health in the air and the loss of Anthony Hitchens this offseason -- one name has come up as a viable option. Leighton Vander Esch out of Boise State may be the answer, securing over 140 tackles in 2017 -- all while standing 6'5 and 256 lbs.
But there's also rumor Dallas could trade up and make a splash in the defensive secondary. Derwin James out of Florida State has many teams on his radar, although Cowboys Executive VP Stephen Jones did explain Monday that they're not too worried about the safety slot, with a number of guys who stepped up last season including Xavier Woods.
The 2018 NFL Draft begins Thursday at 7 p.m. on FOX and NFL Network. KTXS Sports will be in Arlington Thursday with reports on KTXS News at 6 and 10 p.m.
