After working in all parts of the country, the Southwest, Midwest, Southeast – all in the last five years, Veronica Soto decided to settle down in the Big Country and join the KTXS news team as an Anchor/Reporter.
The moves are common for any military wife. After several years of service, she and her husband, Gabe, decided it was best he leave the Army, so they could return to his home state and be closer to family.
Most recently Veronica worked in Milwaukee where she covered crime stories, the aftermath of looters and riots in the Sherman Park neighborhood, community struggles, and plenty of snow falls.
Texas, in her opinion, is the greatest state -- good weather, no state income tax, and big hair. She sure has lots of it!
She grew up in Southern California and went to school at the University of California, Irvine. She also pursued masters in journalism at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies.
In D.C. Veronica met many mentors that helped kick-start her career in TV news. She’s worked in North and South Carolina, and El Paso, Texas as a reporter.
When she is away from the newsroom, you can catch her running around town with her two babies. They are only 20 months apart and keep her very, very busy. Yet she wouldn’t have it any other way.
Veronica is bilingual. She is fluent in Spanish and because research shows bilingualism is better for the brain, she is confusing her children by speaking both English and Spanish to them.
While she is new to Abilene she is loving the friendly people and feels like it’s a perfect fit for her family.
She has a passion for sharing stories --- if you have one please email her at firstname.lastname@example.org
